GORHAM, Maine  – Sophomore Maggie Redman (Alfred, Maine/Massabesic) scored her first intercollegiate goal to deliver the University of Southern Maine Huskies a 1-0 win over the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in a Little East Conference field hockey game Saturday afternoon at the Mansfield Outdoor Complex.

The win is the first conference victory for the Huskies this season who are 2-4 overall and 1-1 in the conference.  Eastern Connecticut, dropping its second straight game, is 1-4, and 1-1 in the Little East.

Redman broke up a scoreless tie 10 minutes into the second half converting an assist from junior Brooke Dugan (Thomaston, Maine/Oceanside).  Outshot by the Warriors for the game 9-6, and out-cornered 9-4, Southern Maine was able to make Redman’s goal stand as the game-winner.  Freshman McKenzie Cormier (Hiram, Maine/Sacopee Valley) made two of her three saves in the final 17 minutes of the game, earning her first collegiate win and shut out.  Additionally, Cormier was bolstered by a pair of defensive saves from freshmen Kiara Perez (Kittery, Maine/Traip Academy) and Lili Kien (Westbrook, Maine/Deering)
