At Brewer, the Witches took a 5-3 lead in the fifth when Morgan Small scored on a single by Sam Pellegrino. Small drove in Lindsay Houp in the sixth to extend the lead to 6-3, just enough to help them escape Skowhegan’s Shelby Obert’s two-run home run in the top of the seventh.
Skowhegan scored two runs in the top of the first on four hits.
Brewer cut the lead in half when Cassy Harvey hit a one-out single and later scored on an RBI single by Delaney Davis.
The Indians extended their lead in the third when Obert hit a home run to deep center.
Brewer took the lead in the fifth when Small, who doubled, scored on a single by Pellegrino. Meg Davis (running again for Pellegrino) and Harvey, who reached on a fielder’s choice, scored on Davis’ single to left.
Houp finished the night with three singles.
Alexa Grindle pitched three innings and Chelsea King pitched four innings to combine to give up 10 hits, walk none and strike out six.
