STANDISH, Maine – Freshman Libby Pomerleau scored three goals to help lift Saint Joseph’s College (6-5, 3-1 GNAC) past Simmons College (7-5, 3-1 GNAC), 3-0, in a rematch of the 2015 GNAC Championship game at Mercy Fieldon Saturday.
Pomerleau put the hosts on the board in the eighth minute when the freshman standout scored during a scrum in the goalmouth following a penalty corner. The 1-0 edge remained until the 47:25 mark when the first-year forward deflected a shot taken by junior Elyse Caiazzo. Less than four minutes later, Pomerleau struck again with a tally off a left-to-right cross from sophomore Kara Kelly to account for the 3-0 final.
The Sharks had their best scoring opportunities off a penalty corner in the 66th minute, when the visitors rattled off four close-range shots in a span of five seconds. St. Joe’s sophomore defender Meghan Burke made a great defensive save on an attempt by junior Sammy Rondeau and second-year keeper Megan Baker recorded three rapid-fire saves to keep the Sharks off the board.
Baker capped the day with seven saves to collect her second-consecutive shutout while her counterpart, Simmons senior Brianna Rastello, did not make a save in a losing effort.
