WinniBANGOR, Maine – The Husson Eagles (3-3) fell to the undefeated and nationally ranked #12/#16 Saint Joseph’s College of Maine (9-0) on Saturday afternoon by a final score of 60-49. Senior Kenzie Worcester continued her stellar play, scoring 20 points in the loss.

1st Half:

The Eagles trailed early in the first quarter, but Worcester provided a spark, and helped close the deficit evening the score off her 3-pointer, but after a 10-2 run by the Monks, they closed out the first quarter with a 16-10 advantage.

The Eagles captured their first lead of the contest midway through quarter two, after an and-one by Sydney Allen and a bucket from Worcester, to grab the edge on the Monks, 16-15 with 6:45 remaining in the half. Worcester would go on to score three consecutive baskets for the Eagles, take lead by three at the five-minute mark in the quarter, 21-18.

After back-to-back buckets by the Monks, and multiple turnovers by the Eagles, Saint Joseph’s recaptured the lead, and held on for the remainder of the half following a three-pointer from Hannah Marks, the score at halftime was 28-24, in favor of Saint Joseph’s.

2nd Half:

The Monks came out of the locker room after halftime on fire, dominating play in the third quarter. Saint Joseph’s outscored Husson 23-9 in the quarter, and took a commanding 51-34 lead.

The Eagles battled until the end, cutting the deficit to 12 late in the game, but could not overcome. Once the Monks grabbed the lead, they never let go, highlighted by the play of both senior Hannah Marks (14 points) and senior Emily Benway (13 points). Saint Joseph’s ended the action as road winners by a final score of 60-49.

Leaders: HUSSON

Kenzie Worcester led the Eagles with 20 points, four steals, and three assists, shooting 8-15 from the floor.

Sami Ireland pulled down seven rebounds and added eight points.

Off the bench, Megan Peach contributed eight boards and four points.

Leaders: SAINT JOSEPH’S

Hannah Marks led the Monks with 14 points, five rebounds, and three assists.

Emily Benway had 13 points and nine boards, nearly a double-double.

Kelsey McNamara posted the only double-double of the night with 12 points and 11 assists.

UP NEXT!

The Eagles travel to Massachusetts for a matchup with the Endicott College Gulls on Wednesday, December 12th. Tipoff is set for 7:00 p.m.
