BIDDEFORD, Maine — Kasey Provost (Peabody, Mass.) redirected home the only tally in the 74th minute as Roger Williams University defeated the University of New England, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women’s soccer action Saturday afternoon (Sep. 30) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The deciding play started on the right wing with Raleigh LeMiere-Barnes (Los Angeles, Calif.), who found a cutting Carly Quinn (Danielson, Conn.) heading towards the near corner of the box. Quinn sent her second touch bending wide-left, and Provost crashed the crease to angle a mid-air flick into the left side of the cage.
With the victory, the Hawks move to 5-5-2 (2-0-1 CCC) on the year. The Nor’easters drop back to 5-5 overall (1-2 CCC).
UNE had a quality chance at an equalizer in the 80th minute, but the one-timer on a dipping cross to the back post whistled just high.
Natalie O’Donovan (Quincy, Mass.) recorded three saves for the Roger Williams shutout.
Emily Ashman (Madison, Conn.) had eight stops for the Nor’easters, who are slated to entertain Colby College on Wednesday (7 p.m.).
