STANDISH, Maine – Junior forward Haley DaGraca (Saco, Maine) netted two goals and an assist to help lift Saint Joseph’s College (8-4-1, 4-3-1 GNAC) past Rivier University (0-8-1, 0-7-1 GNAC), 4-0, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s soccer action at the SJC Athletics Complex on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Saint Joseph’s had numerous opportunities to get on the board in the first half and finally hit pay-dirt at the 42:12 mark, when junior Emily Thornton (Westbrook, Maine) scored her second goal of the season, off a Kayla Gooch (Dracut, Mass.) cross.
The 1-0 edge remained until the 52nd minute, when DaGraca punched home her first tally of the day off a Lauren Stiles (Gorham, Maine) dish. The junior standout was credited with an assist on the Monks’ next goal, a Hannah Butler (Melrose, Mass.) strike at the 61:21 mark, and tallied her second of the contest just 18 seconds later, with freshman Kenzie Murphy (West Baldwin, Maine) earning the assist.
Saint Joseph’s senior Brooke Troup (East Bridgewater, Mass.) posted one stop in recording her fourth shutout of the season. Rivier sophomore Kasey Smith (Hopkinton, N.H.) turned away eight shots in a losing bid.
Saint Joseph’s held sizeable leads in shots (24-1), shots on goal (12-1), and corner kicks (4-1) on the afternoon.
With the win, Saint Joseph’s is now 9-2 all-time versus Rivier University and has now defeated the Raiders in six-consecutive meetings dating back to the 2012 season.
Saint Joseph’s travels to Boston Wednesday for a 7:00 PM conference contest at Simmons College.
