STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph’s College (19-1, 11-0 GNAC) topped Regis (Mass.) (12-8, 10-2 GNAC), 66-45, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women’s basketball matchup on Thursday night. With the victory, the Monks extend their winning streak to a program-record 18 games, topping the previous mark set 32 years ago during the 1985-86 campaign.

Saint Joseph’s carried a 27-22 lead into intermission and essentially put the game out of reach with a dominant third quarter, as the Monks outscored the Pride by a 23-12 margin in the penultimate frame while shooting 53.3% (8-15) from the field. After not attempting a shot in the first two quarters, senior forward Regan McFerran (Albany, N.Y.) paced the Royal Blue with six points off a 3-3 shooting effort in the third period as the hosts headed into the final quarter with a 50-34 cushion.

The Monks extended their advantage to a game-high 23 points (64-41) when sophomore guard Julia Quinn (Fryeburg, Maine) hit a pair of free throws with 3:12 remaining in the contest.

Saint Joseph’s held a considerable 48-26 lead in rebounds – a total that included 21 offensive caroms (Monks’ second-highest tally of the season) – with an 18-11 advantage in points in the paint.

Junior forward Emily Benway (Rochester, N.H.) notched her third double-double of the season with 14 points and 12 rebounds – including eight on the offensive glass

Junior guard Julia Champagne (Brunswick, Maine) netted 14 points off a 4-9 three-point shooting performance and added seven boards, five assists, and a pair of steals

Junior guard Kelsi McNamara (West Newbury, Mass.) added 12 points, seven rebounds, and six assists

Junior guard Hannah Marks (Waldoboro, Maine) chipped in with eight points and six rebounds

Quinn and senior forward Brianne Maloney (South Portland, Maine) scored six points apiece off the bench

Senior forward Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied her 14th double-double of the season and surpassed the 1,000-rebound plateau for her career with 14 points and 13 boards

Junior forward Sam D’Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) tallied 10 points, four boards, two assists, and a pair of steals

With the victory, Saint Joseph’s improves to 2-1 all-time versus Regis (Mass.). A former member of the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC), the Pride became full members of the GNAC last fall.

Both teams return to action Saturday, when Saint Joseph’s travels to University of Saint Joseph (CT) for a 1:00 PM GNAC contest and Regis (Mass.) hosts Becker College in a non-conference tilt slated to begin at 1:00 PM.
