ELLSWORTH, Maine — The Portland Little League Girls 8-10 softball team won the Maine State Championship Wednesday in Ellsworth with a score of 7-2 over Saco.

Pitcher Sadie Armstrong walked only one, fanned 15 batters and fielded 3 balls to 1st base to clinch the title supported by an offense that took advantage of first inning fielding errors by Saco.

There was a triple from Sophie Hill, hits by Lindsay Rogers, Ruby Chase, Maria Delmonte, Anna Kennedy-Jensen and Armstrong and sacrifice bunts by Chase and Hadleigh McPartlan.

Saco’s only baserunners were courtesy of Armstrong’s sole walk of the game and the only hit given up: a 2-run homerun by Saco pitcher Jess Dow.

Portland advances to the Eastern Regionals in Pennsylvania after scoring 41 runs and allowing only 7 runs over 5 games.
