WATERVILLE, ME – The Thomas College field hockey team dropped a 5-1 non-conference decision to Plymouth State on Wednesday night at Bernatchez Field.

The Terriers fall to 3-11 (1-3 NAC) overall while the Panthers move to 8-5 (6-4 LEC) on the season.  Lily Davis tallied two goals for Plymouth, including the game-winner.

The Terriers struck early in the 13th minute of the first half on a goal from senior Gabby Martell.  Freshman Kelci Faulkingham took the initial shot off of a corner attempt that was stopped by Panther keeper Alivia Bates.  Martell batted the ball out of the air into the Plymouth goal for a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers evened the score in the 20th minute as Nicole Burgess fired in a shot from out front on a centering feed from Kate McPhearson.  Three minutes later, Burgess took a deep shot that deflected off Thomas keeper Abbie Charrier.  The rebound went right to Davis on the left post who slammed in the ball for 2-1 lead going into the half.

Four minutes into the first half, a bouncing ball went past the Terriers defense at midfield sending in Burgess and Davis in all alone on Charrier.  Davis received a one-time pass from Burgess on the left side and notched her second goal of the game.   Plymouth tacked on two goals in the final two minutes on a long shot from Katie Martin and a tip-in goal from Kaihley Rafferty to finish at 5-1.

Charrier turned aside nine shots in the defeat for the Terriers while Bates made three saves for the Panthers in the win.  Plymouth outshot Thomas 16-6 while the Terriers held a 7-5 advantage in penalty corners.
