GORHAM, Maine  –  Freshman Daniel Mata (El Paso, Texas/Eastlake) and junior Jose Corrales (El Paso, Texas/Eastlake) each scored second half goals to lead the Pine Manor College Gators to a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference men’s soccer game Sunday afternoon at Hannaford Field.

The loss is the second straight for the Huskies and their first at home this season.  Southern Maine is now 5-7-1 overall.  Pine Manor stops a three-match losing streak to improve to 6-4-1.

Despite being outshot 6-2 in the opening half, Southern Maine led Pine Manor 1-0 at the break on the heels of junior Jonathan Bobe’s (Portland, Maine) first goal of the season.  Bobe volleyed the ball out of the air on a service from senior MK Mohamed (Lewiston, Maine) in the 26th for a 1-0 Huskies’ lead.

PMC continued to pressure the Huskies in the second half, and broke through for the equalizer in the 53rd when Mata got a strike on a loose ball in the box after a failed clear attempt.  The Gators then scored the go-ahead goal in the 65th when Corrales ran onto a through ball into the box from junior Brian Wade (Connelly Spring, N.C./East Burke) for the 2-1 victory.

Pine Manor had a 14-10 lead in shots, and a slight 4-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Southern Maine freshman Richard Glemawu (Accra, Ghana/South Kent (Conn.)) made six saves for Southern Maine.  PMC freshman Angel Pena (Eagle Pass, Texas) made three saves in the victory.

Southern Maine returns to action on Wednesday (4:00 p.m.) hosting non-conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy.  Pine Manor hosts Eastern Nazarene on Thursday(3:30 p.m.).
