Penobscot Valley Girls Soccer 0 at Washburn 3

At Washburn, Mackenzie Worcester scored two goals and goalkeeper Rayah Saucier tied a school record for career shutouts to lift the No. 1 Washburn Beavers by the third-ranked Penobscot Valley Howlers in the Eastern Maine Class D final.

The Beavers, now 15-1-1 advanced to Saturday’s state final where they will take on Western Maine champ Richmond at 5:30 p.m. at Hampden Academy. PVHS of Howland finished at 14-2-1.

Worcester scored in the first half to put Washburn up 1-0 going into halftime. She scored again 45 seconds into the second half off a Maegan Fitzpatrick assist.

Laina Mette also scored for Washburn off a Carmen Bragg assist.

Washburn’s Saucier finished with 3 saves on 5 shots and Penobscot Valley’s Samantha Ireland had 7 saves on 18 shots.
