STANDISH, Maine – Saint Joseph’s College (10-8, 7-4 GNAC) defeated Norwich University (7-10, 4-6 GNAC), 71-59, in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men’s basketball contest at the Harold Alfond Center on Wednesday evening.

Neither team led by more than three points in the opening 11 minutes as Saint Joseph’s clung to a 15-14 before junior forward Aaron Hall (Haverhill, Mass.) hit a layup at the 8:20 mark, sparking an 18-4 SJC run which was capped by a Mario Nery (Bronx, N.Y.) three-pointer and the hosts on top 33-18 with 2:09 before the break.

The Cadets fought back into contention with a 10-4 scoring surge to make it a two-possession game (50-44) midway through the second stanza, but the Monks seemed to answer in kind for every Norwich bucket down the stretch and effectively put the game away by making five-of-six free-throw attempts – including four from Nery – in the closing 40 seconds.

Hall tallied 12 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a pair of blocked shots.

Sophomore guard Ben Malloy (Standish, Maine) netted 12 points off a 4-7 three-point shooting performance.

Nery came off the bench to provide 12 points, two boards, and three assists in 19 minutes.

Sophomore forward Marc Corey (Londonderry, N.H.) nearly notched a double-double with nine points and 10 caroms while dishing out four assists.

Sophomore guard Ian Mileikis (Auburn, Maine) contributed eight points, four rebounds, and six assists.

Junior forward Quinn Richardson-Newton (Saco, Maine) chipped in with eight points and five boards.

Junior guard Ryan Fitzgerald (Winchester, Mass.) led the Cadets with 14 points while going 5-8 from the floor and 3-3 from the FT line.

Junior guard Ryan Booth (Northfield, Vt.) added 13 points, four rebounds, two assists, and a pair of steals.

Junior center Mike Hogervorst (Leiden, South Holland) tallied 13 points and seven boards.

Junior forward Darius Bryant (Calhoun Falls, S.C.) contributed 11 points, nine caroms, two assists, and two steals.
