At Hampden, the Broncos (1-1) scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, and intercepted a pass with less than a minute remaining to seal the win.
Trailing 26-19 with just over four minutes remaining, Hampden drove 64 yards for its final touchdown, a 25-yard pass from Casey Sudbeck to Tyler Knights with 1:04 left. Sudbeck then scampered for the two-point conversion.
On the ensuing possession, Tyler Knights intercepted an Andrew Haining pass with 41 seconds left.
For Hampden, Sudbeck rushed 24 times for 151 yards and two TDs and completed 9 of 14 passes for 148 yards. Knights caught 7 passes for 124 yards and two touchdowns amidst 345 yards of total offense.
Nokomis (0-2) scored the first two touchdowns of the game in the first quarter. Andrew Haining connected with Tyler Pelletier on a 39-yard TD pass, but the conversion failed. Haining then found Isaac Thibodeau on a 20-yard strike and again the conversion was no good.
Hampden answered on Sudbeck’s 4-yard run and Johann Bradley’s PAT kick. Griffin Nye’s interception kept the Broncos within 12-7 at the half.
Sudbeck scored on a 40-yard run in the third quarter to give HA a 13-12 lead.
In the fourth, Haining hit Tyler Provencher on a 21-yard scoring pass for Nokomis, but the Broncos answered with a 20-yard pass from Sudbeck to Knights. Haining then scored on a 1- yard quarterback sneak and completed a pass to Tyler Pelletier for the conversion.
