BIDDEFORD, Maine — Three 1st-half goals fueled the University of New England in a 4-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory over Nichols College as the regular-season came to a close on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 28) at the Big Blue Turf.

With their eighth straight win, the Nor’easters (15-4) secure a share of the CCC regular-season crown at 11-1. And with the tiebreaker over Endicott College (11-1 CCC), UNE will enter Wednesday’s CCC Field Hockey Championship semifinals as the No.1 seed, playing host to fourth-seeded Western New England University. The hosts opened the scoring the 6th minute, as Brooke Lemerise (Bartlett, N.H.) put back a rebound at the left post. Hannah Buckley (Leominster, Mass.) doubled the cushion in the 23rd minute, also on a rebound. Kersey Boulay (Liberty, Maine) registered the next two for UNE, first on a penalty stroke in the 33rd minute, and then off a penalty corner insert by Lemerise in the 63rd minute.

Liz Sargent (South Burlington, Vt.) upped her shutout streak to 351 minutes with four saves. Big Blue has blanked eight opponents this season, and during its 11-game win streak versus Nichols, eight have been with a clean sheet.

For the Bison (8-10, 3-9 CCC), who were out-shot by a 34-5 margin, Brooke Misbach (Guilford, Conn.) totaled 18 stops.

The two times that UNE faced Western New England earlier in the year, the Nor’easters were victorious — 2-1 (2OT) on the road, and 4-0 at home.
