BANGOR, Maine – The Husson University women’s lacrosse team (3-4, 2-2 NAC) was defeated by New England College 16-5 (5-6, 3-1 NAC) Saturday afternoon at Boucher Field.
The scoring started relatively late for each team. Nonetheless, New England College was the first to post a goal on the scoreboard. At 5:24, Allison Grantana gave her team a 1-0 lead from a pass by Tara Bainbridge.
Husson almost immediately answered back with an unassisted goal by Mattie Russell.
At 6:48, NEC would take a 2-1 lead in part by a goal from Tara Bainbridge and would not let go of the lead for the rest of the half. She added another goal three minutes later. Kaitlyn Kostigen tossed in a goal giving her squad a 4-1 lead.
Mariah Carrier found the back of the net by wristing a goal pasted the Pilgrim goaltender. The Eagles trailed 4-2 after the goal.
Tara Bainbridge and and Allison Grantana would combine for three goals over the final fifteen minutes of the half.
Carrier finished the half with a goal and cut the lead to 7-3.
The second half was a different story. New England College scored nine goals while Husson only scored two. Carrier did score a goal early in the second to complete her hat trick. Grantana and Bainbridge combined for seven of the nine second half Pilgrim goals. They would go onto win 16-5.
Mackenzie Meegan saved seven of 17 shots seen and allowed five goals. Tara Bainbridge and Allison Grantana combined for 13 goals in the win.
