At Brewer, the Witches unleashed a 14-hit attack and three pitchers combined on a three-hitter as the Witches improved to 2-2 with an 11-0 victory over the youthful Cougars at Coffin Field.
Mt. Blue of Farmington fell to 1-2.
Sophomore center fielder Maddy Bailey paced the Witches with three singles and three runs batted in. Alexa Grindle doubled and singled and Cassie Harvey and Deaven Smith each had two singles and an RBI.
Kelly Hatt, Grindle and Shelby Colburn each allowed a single. Hatt went the first three innings to pick up the win and Grindle and Colburn each tossed two innings.
They teamed up for nine strikeouts. Hatt walked a pair, but Grindle and Colburn didn’t allow a walk.
The trio was backed by a solid defensive effort as Brewer made only one error.
Brewer used a six-run first inning to build a comfortable cushion.
Lindsay Houp walked to open the first and scored on a throwing error on Hatt’s sacrifice bunt.
Smith grounded a single to left to score Hatt.
Sarah Babin blooped a single into left and, one out later, Morgan Small walked to load the bases.
After another out, Carly Seymour drove in a run with an infield single, a passed ball plated another and Bailey lined a two-run single to right.
Brewer added another run in the second on Hatt’s long triple to left and a wild pitch.
Mt. Blue senior righthander Lexi Howard settled down nicely after that, allowing just one run over the next three innings before Brewer tacked on three more in the sixth.
Howard, Mandi Currier and Addie Brinkman had singles for Mt. Blue, which started three sophomores and three freshmen along with two seniors and a junior.
