By Pete Warner, BDN Staff

At Belfast, Katrina Lapham’s goal with three seconds remaining in the first half lifted the No. 1 Lions by the No. 5 Mustangs and into the Eastern Maine Class B finals for the second straight year.

Belfast will battle Foxcroft Academy for the regional crown on Tuesday at Hampden.

Christine Mehuren set up the winning goal when she inserted the ball off a penalty corner to Maddy Cummings. Cummings passed the ball to Lexi Nelligan on the end line and Nelligan’s cross was controlled by Lapham, whose shot found the back of the goal.

Mount View outshot Belfast 8-4 in the second half, but Brittany’s Masessa’s penalty stroke was stopped by Belfast goalkeeper Julia Ward with 13:53 left in the game. Ward finished with 9 saves on 9 shots as Belfast improves to 13-1-2.

Mount View goalkeeper Abbie Charrier also turned in a strong game as she stopped 9 of 10 shots as the Mustangs finished at 11-4-1.
