At Dover-Foxcroft, Hunter Law’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove home Kaleb Smith with the winning run as fourth-ranked Foxcroft Academy outlasted No. 5 Mount Desert Island for its second-straight extra-inning victory of the postseason.
The Ponies (13-5) had edged Ellsworth in a preliminary-round game Tuesday on an eighth-inning RBI double by Forrest Law, Hunter Law’s brother.
Smith opened the Foxcroft eighth with a single and walks to Caleb Richard and Ryan Rebar loaded the bases before Hunter Law singled on an 0-1 pitch to drive home the winning run.
Smith earned the pitching victory with four innings of two-hit relief in support of starter Jesse Provost.
Foxcroft trailed 6-4 after five innings but tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on RBI singles by Rebar and Law.
Law finished with two singles, a double and five RBIs for the Ponies, while Rebar had three singles and Smith singled twice and scored three runs from the No. 9 slot in the Foxcroft batting order.
Cam Crawford paced MDI (10-8) with two singles and a double, while Nick Shaw had two singles and two runs scored, Colin Mooers also singled twice and Ben Walls had two RBIs.
