Mattanawcook Acad. Football 34 at Maine Central Institute 6

At Pittsfield Friday night, Mattanawcook Academy’s Scott Jipson returned the opening kickoff 77 yards to set up a one-yard TD run by Trysten Pelkey as the third-seeded Lynx cruised by the No. 2 Huskies in an Eastern Maine Class D semifinal.

The Lynx (9-1) advanced to the EM final this weekend against the No. 1 Golden Bucks in Bucksport.

QB Pelkey paced Mattanawcook as he passed for 201 yards and rushed for 71, including three passing TDs. On defense, he had three interceptions. Gunner Maxwell chipped in with seven receptions for 144 yards and three TDs. Trevor Sutherland caught three passes for 43 yards.

Scott Jipson rushed for 49 yards and AJ McEachern had 39.

Erich Hathaway led the Huskies with 73 rushing yards.

After the Lynx took the early lead, MCI responded with its only TD of the game, a 64-yard pass from Greg Vigue to Austin Tolman, but the Lynx responded with 24 unanswered points.
