Fort Kent, Maine — The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s soccer team fought off a tough, well coached Maine Maritime Academy team, 3-0 on Sunday afternoon.

Sherifatu Sumaila, the transfer superstar continued her phenomenal start to the season scoring a goal in the 8th minute. She received a through ball from Marie-Laurence Montagne and Sumaila took care of the rest, speeding past the defender and drilling it to the far side netting. She has now scored in every game, and has 14 goals on the season, which leads the USCAA.

Maine Maritime’s best chance came in the 22nd minute when their corner kick deflected out and Susana DeFrank drilled it back on net but a UMFK defender was there to clear the ball off the line.

Jennifer Cudjoe added a penalty kick after Montagne was taken down in the box in the 76th minute. Sumaila added her second goal of the game as she beat the defender to the middle and put it past the diving keeper.

Valentina Green notched her first shutout in a Bengal uniform and her fourth win. MMA keeper Maggie McConkey made 11 saves in goal.
