HENNIKER, N.H. – Maine Maritime Academy women’s lacrosse fell to New England College, 17-2 on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Don Melander Field.
Shelby O’Neil (Bar Harbor, Maine) put the Mariners on the board first, with an unassisted goal at 22:05, but the Pilgrims answered with three-straight goals to make it 3-1 with 16:53 to go in the first half. Haley Eckert (Harrington, Maine) connected with teammate Briana Obshatkin (Dedham, Mass.), for her 16th goal of the season, to cut the deficit to one (3-2) at 12:41, but the Pilgrims scored five goals to close out the first half with a 8-2 lead.
The Pilgrims added nine goals in the second half, while holding the Mariners scoreless to pick up the conference victory.
O’Neil led the Mariners with a goal, four ground balls and a draw control, while Eckert added an assist, two draw controls and both Sierra James (Campton, N.H.) and Christina Wilson (East Granby, Conn.) registered a caused turnover.
Tara Bainbridge led the Pilgrims with six goals, two assists, and three ground balls, Alana Scott added four goals and two assists, while tallying eight draw controls, one caused turnover and one ground ball and Allison Granata chipped in with four goals and a draw control.
In net, James recorded 13 saves in the loss, while NEC’s Mackenzie Meegan tallied 10 saves, in the victory.
The Mariners fall to 6-5 overall and 4-4 in the conference, while New England College improves to 9-6 on the season and 7-1 in the NAC. Maine Maritime returns to action on Tuesday, April 25 when they host Husson at 4:30 pm on Ritchie Field.
