At Wenham, Mass. — Maine Maritime Academy men’s soccer fell to Gordon College, 7-2, on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action.
Gordon College found the back of the net twice in the opening 10 minutes of play, on the foot of Josh Cochran and Danny Nkhalamba to take a quick 2-0 lead. Maine Maritime’s Mason Whitaker (Westport Island, Maine) cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 16th minute with his first career goal, on a shot from 30 yards out that snuck into the top right corner, but the Fighting Scots added five goals in the final 29 minutes of the first half to take a 7-1 lead into halftime.
Andrew King (Thomaston, Maine) picked up his first career goal in the 75th minute on an assist from teammate Tom Samson (Waterville, Maine).
David Cochran led the way offensively for Gordon with two goals.
Maine Maritime’s Joshua Reeks (Bedford, N.H.) recorded a career-high 16 saves in the loss, while Gordon’s Josh Spoonhour earned the win in net, allowing goals on both shots he faced.
