KINGSTON, Rhode Island – After 2-0 victory against Bryant on Friday evening, the Black Bears remained in Rhode Island to face the University of Rhode Island Sunday afternoon where they lost 2-0 to the Rams.
The game was scoreless until late in the second half, with Rhode Island leading in shots 12-3 in the first half, and 8-1 in the second. 70:12 into the game, the first goal was finally scored, by Taylor Ross on a corner kick opportunity, putting URI up 1-0. URI would score again 13 minutes later, 83:03 into the game again from Taylor Ross, who put Rhode Island up 2-0 with the insurance goal.
Maine Freshman Goalkeeper Annalena Kriebisch saved 8 of 10 shots on goal and finished the game falling to 4-3-0. Maine was only able to get 3 shots on goal, which were all saved by URI Goalkeeper Katie Nickles, who improves to 2-3-2 on the season.
The Black Bears have a break in their schedule, but will return to action at home on September 25th, against Vermont to begin America East conference play.
