WILMINGTON, N.C. — The University of Maine softball team on Saturday dropped a 3-0 decision to Bucknell on Saturday at the 2018 Seahawk Classic.
Maine’s bats were silenced in game two as the Black Bears were held to just two hits in a 3-0 loss to Bucknell.
Alyssa Derrick and Amanda Nee tallied the only hits for the Black Bears. Kyleigh O’Donnell, who started in the circle for the Black Bears, turned in a solid performance. O’Donnell tossed 4.0 innings of no-hit shutout ball with three strikeouts and a walk. Volk picks up the tough loss in relief, surrendering three runs on four hits with a strikeout and two walks over 2.0 innings. Annie Kennedy added an inning of shutout relief, fanning one.
Neither team could push a run across in the opening four innings.
Bucknell took a 3-0 lead with a three-run top of the fifth. Taylor Wolfgang’s one-out RBI double to the gap in left center allowed Ryanne Rokos to score from first. Following a groundout, Bucknell plated two more with a two out rally. Tara Baglivo’s single to center scored Wolfgang before Baglivo came in on Lauren Hadley’s single.
In the bottom of the seventh, Nee was able to record her first career hit, but Maine was unable to take advantage.
The Black Bears were held scoreless in the Saturday finale, dropping the contest by a 3-0 final.
