Lyndon State Men's college basketball 72 at Thomas 65

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Thomas College men’s basketball team dropped a 72-65 decision to Lyndon State College in a North Atlantic Conference contest on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.

In the loss, the Terriers split the season series, falling to 9-10 (7-5 NAC) while the Hornets improve to 7-11 (6-6 NAC).

The Terriers jumped out to a big 15-2 lead in the first seven minutes behind back-to-back threes from Tyheem Simon (Far Rockaway, N.Y. / Lawerence).  Midway through the first half, the Hornets clawed their way back to a 25-20 deficit behind four threes from Corey Frost, Charles Correa Jr., Josiah Woodruff, and Eric Vargas.

Carlos Gonzalez (Kennebunk, Maine / Lewiston) paced the Terriers offense with 17 points and five rebounds in the first half to hold a slim 35-34 advantage at the break.  The Hornets used a balanced scoring attack as Xavier Colbert and Woodruff chipped in with seven points while Frost added six.

Both teams exchanged the lead early in the second until Frost buried another three-pointer for a 42-37 lead.  The Hornets maintained a solid lead through most of the half until Tailour Hall (Jacksonville, Florida / Edward White) knocked down a big shot to bring the Terriers within three with 3:30 remaining.

In the final minutes, Correa Jr. put the game just out of reach as he was fouled on a made three-pointer and made the ensuing free throw.  Jose Berroa finished the scoring at 72-65 as he made two free throws down the stretch.

Gonzalez led the Terriers with a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds.  Simon added 15 points, two boards, and three assists.

Colbert paced the Hornets with 13 points and five rebounds while Darnay Gray netted 11 points.
