Thomas Women's college basketball 65 vs Lyndon State 58

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Thomas College women’s basketball team ended a seven-game losing streak as they defeated Lyndon State College, 65-58, in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action on Saturday.

In the victory, the Terriers move to 6-13 (3-9 NAC) overall while the Hornets fall to 7-11 (4-5 NAC).

Both teams opened the game struggling from the floor as the Hornets shot 5-for-17 and the Terriers 5-for-14 in the first quarter.  Freshman Karli Stubbs (Auburn, Maine / Edward Little) knocked down a pair of threes to give Thomas a 13-12 lead.

Stubbs added another pair in the second quarter along with six points from Amira Jones (Chicopee, Mass. Chicopee) to give the Terriers a 32-20 advantage at the half.  Struggles continued for Lyndon as Mikayla Hodge and Alissa Mitchell each added four points to keep the Hornets within striking distance.

In the third quarter, Gabrielle Foy netted ten of her team’s 21 points on 4-of-6 shooting to bring Lyndon within ten going into the final frame.  Malorie Weaver (Palermo, Maine / Erskine Academy) paced the Terriers with nine points.

In the final frame, the Terriers held on as Jones closed the game with ten of her team’s 14 points.  Lyndon’s leading scorers of Hodge and Foy each added six but it was not enough as they fell 65-58.

Jones finished with a game-high 23 points and hauled in four rebounds.  Stubbs picked up 15 points on five three-pointers while Weaver neared a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds.

Foy led the Hornets offense with 19 points and eight boards while Hodge finished with a double-double at 17 points and 13 rebounds.
