CLERMONT, Florida – The Thomas College softball team finished the Tuesday day 1-1, as they fell 11-0 to Hamilton and defeated Kalamazoo 8-3 for their first victory of the 2017 season.

The Terriers put a run on the board in the bottom of the second as freshman Kayla Bess’ (Madison, Maine / Madison) RBI ground out scored Lexi Colpack (Franklin, N.H. / Franklin) for an early 1-0 lead.
The Hornets answered back with three runs in the next frame on a two-RBI double from Hayleigh Alamo. Alamo eventually scored on a wild pitch.
Thomas regained the lead in the bottom of the fourth on three runs and three hits. Freshman Lauren Farina (Schenectady, N.Y. / Niskayuna) led off the inning with a single to left. After a walk from Colpack, Bess notched a single to load the bases. Cassie Contigiani (Belmont, N.H. / Belmont) reached on a fielder’s choice that scored Colpack. Senior Madison Bentz (Algonquin, Ill. / Ottawa Township) followed with a single down the right field line scoring two runs for a 4-3 lead.
The Terriers plated two runs each in the final two innings. Colpack, LeBourveau, Laren, and Farina each tallied an RBI single to finish the scoring at 8-3.
LeBourveau settled down on the mound after the third inning as she shut down the Hornets the rest of the way, finishing with seven innings, seven hits, and three runs. Senior Courtney Veilleux (Sidney, Maine / Messalonskee) came up big at the plate with a 3-for-4 day and two runs scored.
