WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men’s basketball team used a big second half to power past Johnson State College, 76-59, in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Larry Mahaney Gymnasium.

The Terriers complete the weekend sweep and move to .500 on the season at 3-3 (2-1 NAC) while the Badgers fall to 2-4 (1-2 NAC).

The Badgers pressured defensively throughout the opening half, forcing 16 turnovers in the first 20 minutes. Johnson capitalized on the Thomas miscues with 14 points off turnovers to take a 33-26 lead at the break. Shakeel Irvin and Jeyquan Johnson each chipped in with six points for the Badgers while John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) paced the Terriers with six points of his own along with four rebounds.

The Thomas offense caught fire in the second half as they outscored the Badgers by a 50-26 margin. The Terriers converted 17-for-31 (54.8%) throughout the frame to earn the 76-59 victory. Johnson only turned the ball over five times and shot a cold 9-for-33 (27.3%) along with 2-for-14 from behind the arch.

Zach Mackinnon (Kennebunk, Maine) scored 14 in the second half to finish with a game-high 17 points and five rebounds. Morgan netted 14 points along with seven boards while Carlos Gonzalez (Kennebunk, Maine) chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds. Freshman Angel Gonzalez (Orlando, Fla.) wrapped up with a career-high 11 points and seven assists.

Badgers received 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists from top scorer Marqwon Wynn. Irvin and Johnson each finished with 12 points and combined for ten rebounds in the effort.

The Terriers will have a few days off before they travel to Wheelock College on Tuesday, December 5 for a 7:30 p.m. non-conference game.
