Husson wasted no time to get on the scoreboard first, as the Eagles used three singles, a stolen base, two wild pitches and a groundout to take a 2-0 edge in the bottom of the first. Briana Brochu leadoff the inning with an infield single, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on an infield single by Chloe Gorey. Chloe Gorey then came around to score on an Arika Brochu single to left field after advancing to third on a wild pitch and a groundout by Tamara Aunchman.
The Eagles tacked on a run in the bottom of the third when Kasey Poligni scored on an Arika Brochu double to left field before Husson (21-9, 6-0 NAC) erupted for five runs on five hits in fourth. Olivia Smith had a two-run scoring single and Tamara Aunchman had a two-run ground-rule double.
Arika Brochu retired the Badgers in order in the top of the fifth giving Husson the 8-0 win in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
Arika Brochu (4-4) threw five scoreless innings, allowing only a leadoff hit to Abby McRae, and struck out five.
Arika Brochu lead the Eagles’ offense with had three hits, while Tamara Aunchman and Briana Brochu each had two hits apiece. Olivia Smith, Tamara Aunchman and Arika Brochu combined for six RBI and Chloe Gorey chipped in one RBI in the win.
Kaitlynn Woodward (1-5) was tabbed with the loss. She went 4.0 innings, gave up eight runs (six earned), struck out two and walked two. Abby McRae had the only Johnson State (1-11, 0-4 NAC) hit in the Game 1 loss.
