BIDDEFORD, Maine — The University of New England established a three-goal first-half advantage and cruised to a 4-0 victory over Husson University in non-conference women’s soccer action Wednesday evening.
The win pushes the Nor’easters’ early-season record to 2-0, while Husson drops to 1-2.
UNE, which has outscored its opponents 10-1 thus far, received first-half goals from Taylor Littlefield Langevin (SR/Sanford, Maine), Jessica Meader (SR/Scarborough, Maine) and Ashley Sherman (FY/Ivoryton, Conn.). Littlefield Langevin knocked home a rebound of her own shot that was initially saved less than five minutes in, before Meader converted a header off a beautiful service from the right flank by Edie Pallozzi (JR/Windham, Maine) five minutes later. Sherman capped the first-half scoring in the 40th minute on a rebound after Lizzie Sullivan (FY/Gorham, Maine) had a shot that was denied.
Pallozzi notched the lone goal of the second frame, receiving a pass from Brionne Turcotte (SR/Goffstown, N.H.) in the center of the field and taking a few touches before drilling home a shot into the right side of the goal.
The Nor’easters controlled play the entire match, establishing significant advantages in shots (33-8) and corner kicks (9-4). Brielle Robinson (SR/Monson, Mass.) played the opening 79:10 in goal and recorded three stops before being relieved by Emily Ashman (SO/Madison, Conn.), who finished off the shutout.
