WATERVILLE, Maine – The Thomas College men’s soccer team snapped a three-game losing streak in a 3-0 shutout victory over Husson University on Saturday afternoon in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action at Smith Field.
The Terriers improve to 3-3 (1-0 NAC) in the victory while the Eagles fall to 1-3 (0-1 NAC).
The Eagles controlled shots in the first half as they held an 11-4 advantage. The Terriers struck first in the 22nd minute of the first half as Nawfal El-Antri’s (Dorchester, Mass.) free kick from the left side beat Eagles keeper Cody Gross.
Play remained back in forth in the second half until two late goals from the Terriers put the game out of reach at 3-0. In the 82nd minute, Michael Sanzari (Falmouth, Maine) received a pass to the right side from Shammah Gahomera (Westbrook, Maine). Sanzari’s shot hooked around the Husson keeper and in for his first collegiate goal. Just under four minutes later, Tevin Reid (Dorchester, Mass.) beat two defenders in the box and his shot tucked inside the left post for his first goal of the season.
Jonathan Dutka (Durham, N.H.) and John Villaneuva (Gray, Maine) split time in goal for Thomas, stopping all seven shots. Josh Irving (Portland, Maine) had a big game on defense for the Terriers, clearing away two scoring opportunities for Husson. Gross turned aside six shots for the Eagles in the effort.
