GORHAM, Maine  – Lauren Russell scored a pair of goals, including the eventual game-winner, to lead the Husson University Eagles to a 3-2 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in a non-conference field hockey game Sundaymorning at Hannaford Field.

Suffering its second loss in as many games, all by one goal, Southern Maine is now 0-2.  Earning its second road win, Husson is 2-0.

Husson outshot Southern Maine 9-4 in the opening half, but both teams headed into the break with the score locked at zero.  Husky rookie goalkeeper Anna Huff (Norway, Maine/Oxford) turned in a strong first half performance, making five saves in the initial 35 minutes to keep the Eagles off of the scoreboard.

The score remained the same until 10 minutes into the second half before freshman Alli Bourget (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine/Foxcroft Academy) put the Eagles on the board with an unassisted goal in the 45th minute.  Russell made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute with her first goal of the game.  Southern Maine pulled to within a goal of the Eagles in the 62nd when senior Tayla Smedberg (Oxford, Maine/Oxford Hills) finished an assist from junior Dorina Sirois (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy).  Russell answered for the Eagles, however, in the 68th minute to return a two-goal advantage to Husson, as she cleaned up a deflection in the circle for a 3-1 lead. With time winding down, USM made it 3-2 on senior Kaitlin Hilton (Saco, Maine/Thornton Academy) notched her first goal of the season in the 70th minute.

Huff played well in the loss for Southern Maine making seven saves. Husson senior Anne Marie Provencal (Skowhegan, Maine) made six saves in the win.  Husson outshot the Huskies 16-9 for the game and had a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners
