HENNIKER, N.H. – Husson (13-12, 7-5) dropped two conference games against New England College (NEC) (12-12, 5-5) Friday afternoon, losing the first game 5-0 and the second 17-10.
GAME ONE: NEC 5, HUSSON 0
The game remained a scoreless tie up until New England used a big fifth inning to break the game open.
After Jameson Carey singled to pitcher Ben Walls, Andrew Castano advanced to first base on a throwing error from Logan Rogerson, moving Ja. Carey to second. The errors continued for Husson, and Manuel Alejandro reached on a throwing error from Walls. The error brought Castano and Ja. Carey home, giving NEC a 2-0 lead.
NEC kept the scoring up, using a Conor Crouse ground-out to score Alejandro. The hot bats continued for the Pilgrims in the fifth inning. Luis Atiles roped a double deep to left center to score Aneury Lara, and scored just one batter later on an RBI right-field single from Stanley Vargas.
Husson managed just two hits in the game, a double from captain Cam Archer and a single from Conor Maguire.
Walls got the loss for Husson, giving up six hits while recording six strikeouts, yet surrendering no earned runs due to errors. Vincent Backert got the complete-game win for the Pilgrims, striking out six batters and only allowing two hits.
