NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Colby-Sawyer women’s lacrosse team defeated Husson University 17-10 on a snow covered Sally Shaw Veitch Turf Field on Friday afternoon.
Husson drops to 2-2 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. The Eagles will host Saint Joseph’s of Maine on Wednesday at 6 p.m. Colby-Sawyer improves to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NAC. The Chargers will continued conference action at home on Tuesday against Green Mountain at 4 p.m.
Husson was led by Amanda Deshaies’ four goals. Mattie Russell contributed three scores. Cali Newton, Mariah Carrier, and Serian Williams each, respectively, tossed in one goal. Kaitlin Dolloff was saddled with the loss after making seven saves.
Brittany Ireland and Sierra Schuster led the way for the Chargers with five goals apiece. Nikki Pignone added three tallies, while Molly Mulcahy and Nicole Lavigne found the back of the net twice. Meghan Castellano picked up her third win of the season after making eight saves in the first half.
The Chargers opened the game with three straight goals before Husson got on the board on a goal from Serian Williams. Brittany Ireland then answered, but the Eagles scored the next four to take its first lead of the game, 5-4, with 10 minutes left in the half. Colby-Sawyer responded with a flurry of goals to end the half. The Chargers rattled off six straight to end the frame in front 10-5.
Deshaies began the second half with a score for Husson to cut the deficit to 10-6, but Colby-Sawyer answered with three straight goals and never looked back to secure a 17-10 NAC victory over the Eagles.
