CASTLETON, Vt. – The Castleton University women’s basketball team lost to North Atlantic Conference leader Husson University, 68-36, Friday night in a conference contest at Glenbrook Gym.
The game was scoreless until Amanda Beatty converted a traditional three-point play with 6:19 remaining in the first quarter. Castleton went on a 7-1 scoring run over a two-minute span, led by five points from Makayla Farrara, to take a 12-6 lead, but Husson went on an 11-1 scoring run over the final three minutes of the quarter, featuring consecutive three-pointers by Kenzie Worcester, to take a 17-13 lead.
Husson (13-1, 9-0 NAC) pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring Castleton 16-2 to extend its lead to 33-15 at halftime. The Eagles maintained that lead the rest of the way, scoring five straight points at the end of the third quarter to take a 48-24 advantage, and then another quick 5-0 run midway through the fourth quarter helped Husson establish its largest lead of the night at 32 points.
Farrara led Castleton with 10 points and two blocked shots, and Taylor Raiche finished with eight points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocked shots. As a team, the Spartans shot 24.5 percent (13-of-53) from the field, including 4-of-21 from behind the three-point line, and 54.5 percent (6-of-11) from the free throw line.
Worcester led the Eagles with 16 points, eight rebounds, and five assists, while Darla Morales finished with 14 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Husson shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field, including 8-of-24 from behind the three-point line, and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) from the free throw line.
