AUBURNDALE, Florida – The Thomas College baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader, 12-0 and 7-5, to Hope College on Tuesday afternoon at Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.

Freshman Cody Cousins (Wells, Maine / Wells) took the mound for the Terriers in his first collegiate appearance making quick work of the Dutchmen in the first two innings. Hope tallied a run in the top of the third as a Jordon Fairchild RBI single scored Ben De Ritter.
Thomas responded in the bottom half of the inning as Darren Kelly (Foxboro, Mass. / Foxborough) sent a single to left center to score Andres Cabrera (Brooksville, Fla. / Hernando).
The Dutchmen begin to get to Cousins in the top of the fifth as Michael Barnett ripped a ground rule double to score two. Fairchild followed with a triple to score Barnett, taking a 4-1 lead.
Derek LeBlanc (Madison, Maine / Madison) and Tristan Pena (Portland, Texas / Gregory-Portland) started the Terriers rally in the bottom of the sixth with a pair of singles. Cabrera added a line drive single to right field to score both runners and to cut the deficit to one. Alex Curtis (Monmouth, Maine / Monmouth Academy) and Kelly continued the offense as their singles scored two more runs to give the Terriers a 5-4 lead going into the final frame.
The lead was short lived as the Dutchmen scored three runs on a hit and two errors off relief pitcher Jaicob Flores (Kingsville, Texas / Riviera-Kaufer). Hope pitcher Matt VanDyken shut the Terriers down in the seventh to preserve the 7-5 win.
