At Alumni Field in Millinocket, Ryan Hibbs capped a 70-yard drive with a 39-touchdown run and Jordan Morrow added the two-point conversion rush with seven minutes left in the third quarter to give the Minutemen the winning edge.
Hermon, now 1-5, got on the scoreboard first when freshman David Shepardson ran in a TD from the Stearns’ 9. Colin Hughes gave the Hawks the excellent field position when he blocked a Stearns’ punt.
Morrow added a 17-yard TD run for Stearns with four minutes left in the fourth quarter and the Minutemen sealed the victory in the final minutes when Mark Lyons and Jude Tapley each picked off a pass.
Stearns, now 3-3, rolled up 331 rushing yards behind Hibbs (18 carries-139 yards) and Morrow (13-129), but were hurt by two fumbles and an interception in the first half. Morrow also had 14 tackles and recovered two fumbles while linebacker Riley Whitney led the defense with 19 tackles.
Shepardson finished with 47 yards on 15 carries for Hermon and Hughes had two fumble recoveries.
