CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy men’s basketball hit 16 three-pointers en route to an 86-58 victory over Green Mountain College on Friday night in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action inside of Smith Gymnasium.

With the win the Mariners improve to 3-15 on the season and 2-9 in the NAC, while the Eagles drop to 6-10 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Maine Maritime returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they host Castleton University at 3:00 pm.

The Eagles got on the board first, with a layup from Sean Leflore, but the Mariners fought back and built a 10-point lead (16-7) following a 16-5 run highlighted by four three-pointers.

Green Mountain College scored 10-unanswered points to close the gap to one point with 8:54 to go in the half, but Riley Jorgenson (Vienna, Maine) hit a three and Brendan Newcomb (Holden, Maine) hit back-to-back three-pointers to give the Mariners a 31-21 lead at 6:24. The Eagles fought back once again and cut the Mariners’ lead to two following an 11-3 run, but Tyler Thayer (Hermon, Maine) and Riley MacLeod (Bucksport, Maine) made baskets to give the Mariners a 40-32 lead. Green Mountain’s Diante Warner hit a last-second three to cut the deficit to five (40-35) entering halftime.

Nicholas DePatsy (Waldoboro, Maine), Jorgenson and Newcomb each had nine points to lead the Mariners in the first half, while Warner led the Eagles with 11 points.

Maine Maritime scored eight-unanswered points to open up the second half and grabbed a 48-35 lead. The Mariners continued to build a lead and never looked back, outscoring the Eagles 46-23 in the second half.

Newcomb led the Mariners with 21 points, on seven three-pointers, while also adding two steals and a rebound. DePatsy contributed 20 points, including five three-pointers, five rebounds, three assists and a steal and Adam Richardson (Bradley, Maine) added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Jorgenson rounded out the Mariners in double-digits with 11 points, including three three-pointers, a team-high eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.

Leflore led the Eagles with 16 points, eight rebounds, a steal and an assist, while Warner finished the evening with 13 points, four assists, three rebounds, and a steal and Jacob Plum chipped in with 12 points and three rebounds.

The Mariners shot 49.2 percent from the floor, while the Eagles shot 40.6 percent. Maine Maritime shot 48.5 percent from three-point land, while the Eagles only shot 14.3 percent. Green Mountain held a 40-32 edge in rebounds.
