SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team defeated the Herons from Great Bay Community College 104-84 in convincing fashion to earn its fifth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory on Tuesday, Dec. 6.
Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) led all scorers with a career-high 29 points on his way to his second double-double of the season. Silvestri added 14 rebounds to his resume, grabbing 10 on the offensive end. Junior captain John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) notched his third double-double of his 2016 campaign, tallying 26 points by way of 70 percent from the floor. Sophomore Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) poured in a season-high 22 points, making five of 10 from beyond the arch.
Great Bay’s Tyler White improved on his YSCC-leading points-per-game average scoring 27 on the evening, making seven three-pointers.
In a game that featured 12 lead changes, SMCC led at the half 49-40 and then strung together an 11-2 run to open the second. The SeaWolves offense posted its largest single-game point total of the season to secure the 104-84 victory. Defensively, SMCC has allowed the fewest points among YSCC teams averaging 71.1 points-against over 12 games this season.
The SeaWolves become the first to five conference wins in the North Division and sport a 10-2 record overall.
