BANGOR, Maine – The Eagles swept the Falcons at home on Saturday capturing an 8-3 victory in the first game of the softball doubleheader, followed by a 7-0 shutout. The games were played on a more unfamiliar surface since the softball field is still recovering from all of the snow and rain, the women competed on Boucher Field where soccer, lacrosse, and field hockey typically play.

Game 2: Husson 7, Fisher 0

Olivia Maynard picked up the win in the second game for Husson helping her team get the shutout while only letting through two hits, one walk, and tossing two batters out in the first four innings. Arika Brochu closed out the final three innings adding on four more strikeouts, plus only allowing one hit and one walk.

The Falcons had Rowley pitch the whole game as she struck out two batters, and let three walks slip through plus four unearned runs.

The Eagles started off scoring in the first again with B. Brochu reaching home off of a hit by Tamara Aunchman who unfortunately took the out at first off of fielder’s choice. A couple innings later, Kasey Poligni stepped in to pinch run for Maynard in the fourth who shot a double to center. Poligni continued on to score off an error. Another error later in the bottom of the fifth, and two more runners scored for Husson.

The Eagles picked up their final runs in the sixth inning as B. Brochu snuck home on a wild pitch. With the bases empty and two outs, Smith stepped up to the plate and smacked a triple directly down the right field line followed by a walk for Aunchman. Kylie Kennedy copied Smith, but sent a hard triple to the fence out in center field scoring both players on base for two RBI’s.

Offensively for the Eagles, B. Brochu was very patient in the batter’s box picking up four walks on the day helping her make it home four times. Smith contributed immensely with her homerun, triple, and two RBI’s. With impressive base running skills, Andrade gathered up four stolen bases by the end of the day while B. Brochu also had three.
