BIDDEFORD, Maine — Will Jennings scored six goals, including a pair early in the fourth quarter to help Endicott College open up a lead, as the Gulls edged the University of New England 10-8 in Commonwealth Coast Conference men’s lacrosse action Wednesday afternoon at the Big Blue Turf.
The Gulls won their second consecutive outing to improve to 2-6 overall (2-0 CCC), while UNE dipped to 6-3 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Bryan McManus had a pair of goals for Endicott, and Colin Bannon and Kennneth Speak each added one. Bannon set-up three goals to finish the day with four points.
Andrew Curro paced the Nor’easters with four scores and added two assists. Dan Auger notched a pair of goals, while Alex Zadworny and Remy Watt contributed one apiece.
Leading 5-4 heading into the final frame, the Gulls opened up a four-goal advantage (8-4) on back-to-back goals from Jennings in the initial 1:56 and a strike from Speak with just under eight minutes to play.
UNE would battle back and cut its deficit in half (8-6) as Auger tallied consecutive markers. McManus and Jennings got those goals right back for the Gulls, building their lead back to four (10-6) with less than four minutes on the clock.
The Nor’easters rallied in the closing minutes with a pair of markers but would run out of time to complete their comeback bid.
Grant Thompson recorded 13 saves in goal for Endicott to pick up the win. Tommy Hughes won 14 of 20 face-off opportunities. The Gulls had four different players rack up six ground balls on their way to a 53-37 advantage in that category.
Wyatt Ehrhardt led UNE with six ground balls, while goalkeeper David Pearson had five to go with 14 saves.
