BIDDEFORD, Maine — For the second time in as many games, Colin Madigan (Canton, Conn.) provided the difference for the University of New England, which this time knocked off Endicott College, 1-0, in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men’s soccer action on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 21) at Barbara J. Hazard Field.
The Nor’easters earned a free kick just inside the midfield line with just over 13 minutes remaining in the contest, and Madigan’s flick-header out of a crowd crept over the line for the only goal. Lee Esposito (Niskayuna, N.Y.) assisted on the play, serving it some 45 yards into the box. [Watch]
The win bumps UNE up to 4-13 on the year and 3-5 in CCC outings, and secures a spot in the postseason championship.
It was Endicott’s first setback in CCC play, dropping the Gulls to 9-4-3 overall and 5-1-2 in league matches.
Very few chances for either side found the target, even though total shots were 16-9 in favor of Endicott. For the Nor’easters, Nathan Delesdernier (Niantic, Conn.) posted three saves for the clean sheet, while his counterpart for the Gulls, Will Manuel (Mount Pleasant, S.C.), made two stops.
UNE visits Nichols College (2-6 CCC) on Tuesday (3 p.m.) for the regular-season finale.
