CASTINE, Maine – Maine Maritime Academy amassed 378 yards of total offense in a 35-14 loss to Endicott College on Saturday afternoon in New England Football Conference action on Ritchie Field.

Corey Creeger (Biddeford, Maine) recorded 195 passing yards and a touchdown, and 95 yards on the ground with a touchdown to lead the Mariner offense. Cody Chapman (Bangor, Maine) tallied nine tackles, including seven solo stops, and two for a loss to lead the defense.

The Mariners found the end zone on their second possession following an interception from Joshua Crouse (Old Town, Maine) on Endicott’s previous drive. Maine Maritime put together a 8-play 89-yard drive capped off by a 15-yard touchdown run from James Ferrar(Cumberland, Maine) and an extra point from Cameron Crook (Amherst, N.H.) to make it 7-0 with 4:24 to go in the first quarter.

The Gulls tied things up following a Mariner fumble that put them into Maine Maritime territory, setting up a 33-yard touchdown run by Lavante Wiggins with 48 seconds to go in the first quarter.

Endicott College added another touchdown late in the second quarter to take a 14-7 lead on a 10-yard touchdown completion from Michael Scherer to Greg Ruff.

Looking to tie things up, the Mariners used nine plays to march to the Endicott-22, but Creeger’s pass was picked off by Endicott’s William Rivera as time expired in the opening half.

The Gulls scored on their first two drives of the second half. First, on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Joe Kalosky to Jake Pelletier, and again on a 27-yard toss from Kalosky to Conor Crotty, to take a 28-14 lead with 5:39 remaining in the third quarter.

Endicott scored again midway through the fourth quarter, on a 78-yard pass from Kalosky to Zach DeNike, to give the visitors a 35-7 lead.

Creeger connected with Joel Bennett (Chelsea, Maine) on back-to-back passes of 21 yards and 18 yards respectively, to set up a two-yard touchdown rush from Creeger to close the gap to 35-14 with 3:02 to go. After a beautifully executed onside kick from Jacob Silva (Warren, R.I.) that was recovered by teammate Derek Breunig (Westbrook, Maine), the Mariners regained possession, but turned the ball over on downs and the Gulls hung on for the win.

Joel Bennett led the Mariners with 84 receiving yards and Jordan Susi (South Portland, Maine) tallied 80 receiving yards on three grabs.

Robert Bradley, Jr. (Slidell, La.) tallied eight tackles, including five solo and a tackle for a loss, while Jaret Mundth (Davie, Fla.) recorded six tackles, including two for a loss of eight yards and John Bennett (Chelsea, Maine) paired four tackles with an interception early in the second quarter.
