BAR HARBOR, Maine — Ben Walls scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Mount Desert Island held off Ellsworth 57-45 in a Class B boys basketball game at Bernard Parady Gymnasium on Saturday night.
The win lifts the Trojans to 9-2, while Ellsworth dips to 4-8.
Walls, a senior forward, scored 10 points in the first half as MDI built a 23-13 lead.
Junior guard Abe Philbrook came on strong offensively for the Trojans after intermission, scoring all 11 of his points in the final two periods.
Point guard Jonathan Phelps also scored 11 points for MDI, which overcame 25 turnovers in the contest.
Senior center Adam Gray added nine points and a game-high 11 rebounds for coach Justin Norwood’s club.
MDI outrebounded Ellsworth 39-24 during the contest, and the Trojans also made 18 of 25 free throws compared to 13 of 23 for the Eagles.
Steven Mahon led Ellsworth offensively with 12 points while Brandon Braley scored 10.
The taller MDI front line relegated the Eagles to the perimeter for most of the night, and Ellsworth made just 4 of 25 3-point tries.
