BANGOR, Maine – The Husson men’s soccer team earn their first win of the season with a 4-0 shutout over Eastern Nazarene on Saturday night at Boucher Field.

With this win, the Eagles improve to 1-1 (0-0 NAC) while the Lions drop to 0-3.

The Eagles came out with high intensity, and Saker Ghanayem hit the crossbar in the second minute. Ten minutes laterRod Ghanayem earned a free kick on top of the penalty box for the home team. Martin Lidholmconverted the chance brilliantly and ripped the ball into the top corner of the net. That goal was well welcomed for the Eagles, as it was the team’s first goal of the season.

After that goal, the game slowed down a little bit. The Eagles created some chances, but nothing too threatening. That was until the 29th minute, when Saker Ghanyem found Miguel Caballero with a through ball. Caballero shot the ball into the net and put Husson into a 2-0 lead. That advantage remained until half time.

The Eagles started the second half with the same intensity as in the first. They also added some confident passing on top of that. That paid off in the 72nd minute, when Caballero returned the favor to Saker Ghanayem. After some nice passing, Ghanayem ended up one on one with the keeper. He made no mistake and finished clinically. The green and gold led 3-0 after the goal.

Eastern Nazarene ran into more trouble 10 minutes later, when Jake Donovan was given a red card. That looked like it was going to be the last big moment of the game, but Nick Whitehead had other ideas. With 11 seconds left of the game, he headed a corner into the goal after a good delivery by Nathan Firlings.

In the 4-0 win, Husson outshot the Lions 24-5. Cody Gross made two saves for Husson, while Tim Eddings made two saves and Victor Mendoza made three for Eastern Nazarene.
