ORONO, Maine — Maine Field Hockey exploded for five second half goals to defeat Dartmouth 7-3 Monday afternoon at the University of Maine field hockey complex. This marks the first time under Josette Babineau that the Black Bears have started the season 4-0. Dartmouth falls to 0-2 on the year.
Emily Corbett started in goal for the Black Bears, while Emma Plumb started for the Big Green.
For the fourth game this season, Maine opened with the first goal of the game from Ella Mosky off of a pass from Casey Crowley to give Maine a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Madison Cummingsscored her first of the game to give the Black Bears a 2-0 advantage.
One minute later, Heather Zezzo of Dartmouth, scored the first goal of the game for the Big Green to cut Maine’s lead in half, 2-1. 11 minutes later, Dartmouth tied the game 2-2 off of a penalty corner, Joanne Nazareth for her first of the season.
Maine outshot Dartmouth 12-3 in the first half.
Emma Cochran started in goal for the Black Bears in the second half.
Madison Cummings started the second half goal five goal outburst for the Black Bears, five minutes into the half off of an assist from Casey Crowley on a give and go as Maine regained the lead 3-2. 11 minutes later, Adrianna Martineau notched her first goal of the season as Maine increased their lead 4-2.
Maine received a penalty corner seven minutes later, Casey Crowley scored the Black Bears’ fifth goal of the day as they took a 5-2 lead.
Five minutes later, the Black Bears had a three on one opportunity, Casey Crowley passed to her left to set up Madison Cummings for her third goal of the day as she increased the margin, 6-2. Lydia Gavner added Maine’s seventh goal of the day off of a Crowley assist, her fourth of the day, Maine led 7-2.
Dartmouth’s Joanne Nazareth scored their third goal of the game, just before the end of the game.
Emma Cochran earned the win and is now 3-0 on the season.
