LEWISTON, Maine — Lauren Foster scored her first career goal on a penalty corner in the eighth minute of overtime, lifting the Bates College field hockey team to a 1-0 NESCAC win over Connecticut College on Saturday.

Bates (6-5, 3-5 NESCAC) won its second straight game and defeated the Camels (1-9, 1-6 NESCAC) for the first time since 2013. Conn College lost its fourth straight.

The rivals battled to a 0-0 draw through 70 minutes of regulation time, despite a 9-2 advantage in shots attempted for Bates, though penalty corners were tied at 4-4.

The Camels earned the first two penalty corners of the overtime period, in which the teams are reduced to 7-on-7. Bates’ defense rose to the occasion, keeping Conn College without a shot on the first corner. On the second, in the game’s 73rd minute, Bates goalie Adelae Durand made the save on Jacqueline Murphy’s shot to preserve the tie.

Bates’ Grace Fitzgerald’s shot in the 75th minute went wide, but the Bobcats earned a corner of their own soon after. Taylor Lough’s shot was saved by Camels goalkeeper Ryley van der Velde in the 76th minute.

Bates earned another corner 6:35 into overtime, which turned into the game decider. Foster inserted the ball to Lough and received a pass back to the left of the Camels’ goal, and her shot found the back of the cage to end the game.
