Fort Kent, Maine—The University of Maine at Fort Kent basketball men’s basketball team swept the season series with College of St. Joseph’s Vermont on Sunday afternoon winning 106-62.
The Bengals jumped on the Saints from the start with
their pressure defense and transition offense. UMFK broke a 10-10 game open,
with a 29-10 run over the middle part of the half.
Senior Anthony Knight was unconscious from the field as he made 7-8 field
goals, including a couple of three pointers. He finished with 16 in the
opening half. The Bengals would continue to fire on all cylinders for the
rest of the half and increased their lead to 55-28 at the break. UMFK shot
65% from the field in the half and 60% overall.
The second half was more of the same. UMFK continued with their pressure
defense that caused too many turnovers for the Saints to overcome. A couple
of highlight dunks by Knight put the game away and diminished any hope CSJ
had of getting back into it.
Knight led six Bengals in double figures with 23. Jarid Walton had 16 points
and 10 rebounds, while Johnathon Caldwell had 14 points. Bobby Syvanthong
was once again near a triple double with 13 points, 11 rebounds and eight
assists. Thomas Enerva had 14 and Troy Williams hit three long range shots
and finished with 13.
UMFK forced the Saints into 21 turnovers and scored 55 fast break points.
The Saints were led by Charles Isaac who scored 15, including the first
eight for CSJ.
