Fort Kent, Maine—The University of Maine at Fort Kent women’s basketball team swept the season series with College of St. Joseph’s Vermont on Sunday afternoon winning 65-53.
The Bengals won a pivotal USCAA matchup between two
teams battling for a national tournament berth. UMFK came into the day
ranked 8th and CSJ was ranked 11th. Only eight teams will make the
tournament. UMFK started off strong with back to back three pointers from
Savana Jankowski and Madison Fenner. Jankowski had all of her field goals in
the first quarter and finished with 12 of her game high 21 in the frame.
The Bengals sat back in a zone for majority of the game and when in man,
sagged in the paint as the Saints struggle from the outside, shooting just
27% on the year. They would finish 3-19 from three point land on the
afternoon. CSJ athletic guards kept the game close however all the way until
Fenner three put the Bengals up by five points midway through the last
quarter and Kallee Dowler would go 6-7 from the line in the fourth to
preserve the win.
Fenner would finish with 11 points while Dowler had 16. CSJ was led by
Dymond Black’s 16 points.
