Farmington, Maine – University of Maine at Farmington men’s soccer (4-11-0, 2-6-0) gave up two first half goals in a 4-2 defeat against Colby-Sawyer (9-5-1, 6-1-1) on Saturday.
Andrew Clothier scored off a corner kick by Jake Sykes at 6:35 to give the Pilgrims an early 1-0 lead. Colby-Sawyer scored again in the 43rd minute off another corner kick, this time Clothier redirected the kick and found Yannick Gonsalves for the score.
Early in the second half, UMF gained momentum when senior Henry Ametti scored off a penalty kick at 52:00. Colby-Sawyer answered back as Matt Schiller scored at 59:05 off a scramble in front of the net. In the 67th minute, Zach Elmore dribbled into the box down the right side and beat UMF goalie Ronie Morales with a shot to the left side.
UMF got the final goal on a terrific cross from Tayoung Nuyepga that found Andrew Longhurst for the header. The goal was Longhurst’s first career goal.
